The Parc de Rochegude in Albi
Just 10 minutes walk from the Grand Hotel d'Orléans d'Albi is a remarkable garden: the Parc de Rochegude.
Nestled in the heart of Albi, the Rochegude park is a haven of greenery and history that invites you to relax and discover. Classified "Remarkable Garden" in 2010, this 4-hectare park, located in the cultural district of Cordeliers, is a real urban oasis. Its creation dates back to the 19th century, when it was the private property of Admiral Pascal de Rochegude, a botanist and local notable. After his death, the park was bequeathed to the city, becoming a public place where everyone can admire its botanical and artistic wealth.
Walking through the Rochegude park, you will find a variety of spaces, each with its own charm. The French garden offers symmetrical walkways and carefully trimmed boxwood, while the more wild and natural English garden invites you to linger. The remarkable trees, including libocèdres and redwoods, bear witness to the Admiral’s passion for botany. Romantic statues punctuate the course, including the emblematic bust of the Admiral by Gabriel Pech, enriching the cultural experience.
The biodiversity of the park is also remarkable. Bird Island, a haven for birds, offers a fascinating natural spectacle. The recently added waterfall adds a touch of serenity with the soothing sound of water flowing.
For garden lovers, here is a list of spaces not to be missed:
Le Jardin d'Ombre: A subtropical atmosphere with plants adapted to shade.
The Garden of the Labyrinth: A playful space in the heart of boxwood hedges.
The Demonstration Garden: Presentation of plants used in the city gardens.
The Rose Garden: Varieties of English and old roses for a festival of perfumes.
The Cascade Garden: A new space with a selection of local shrubs.
The Vegetable Garden: An accessible vegetable garden offering vegetables and aromatic plants.
Rochegude is more than just a green space; it’s a place where history, culture and nature meet in harmony. A walk in this park is a rewarding and relaxing experience, offering a breath of fresh air and a moment of tranquility in the hectic pace of urban life.
